The Alan G. MacDiarmid NanoTech Institute is a “research center that attracts interdisciplinary scientists from around the world and is dedicated to original science and technological discoveries on the nanoscale.” The NanoTech Institute participates in outreach programs such as the George A. Jeffrey NanoExplorers program, which “introduces middle school and high school students to their first research experiences.”
The NanoExplorers program takes place during the summer and promotes nanotechnology-based research for rising 10th-12th grade high school students. An end goal for the program is to allow the students to complete their own, original research work. Students in the program are able to join a faculty member’s research lab based on their interests and are taught the skills needed to conduct their own research.
